Private Biography

"Private":
Annelie Löber-Stascheit
Annelie Loeber Stascheit grew up in Muelheim an der Ruhr where she was born in March 1956. By the age of eighteen she was a qualified administration assistant at the Muelheim an der Ruhr City Council.
Afterwards she worked as assistant to the director of the Adult Education (“Evening School”) department and later as librarian of a small branch library of the Muelheim an der Ruhr city library.
In 1979 her daughter Inga was born and Annelie resigned from the city administration, relieved to have an excuse to turn her back on the dreariness of administration. Worked as a taxi driver and child minder to pay the bills and was particularly active in the “women against nuclear power” and the peace movement.
In 1982 she met Wilfried Stascheit, who had just founded the publishing house “Schulpraxis”. This was for Annelie not only the man of her life but also the job of her life. She took responsibility for selling the books and office administration and worked her way up to become head of marketing, distribution and logistics.
In 1984 she took over the administration of the business, contributing significantly to the further growth and success of the publishing house.
In 2003 the company was sold to Cornelsen Holding. She remained as administration and marketing manager until the end of 2007, from 2006 alone as Wilfried Stascheit had by then given up the management of the business.
In 2008 she supported the new manager as consultant before moving to Lake Constance.
In 2007 the Stascheits founded the charity organization “Selbst.Los! Cultural Foundation Annelie & Wilfried Stascheit”. (www.selbstlos-stiftung.de)
In 2008 – 2009 she studied as Fundraising Manager at the Zurich University for applied Business Studies.

"Private":
Wilfried Stascheit
Wilfried Stascheit was born in December 1950 and grew up in the then heavily industrialized Ruhr area of Muelheim.
After one semester in Bochum he left the Ruhr area in 1970 to read sociology, german studies and politics in Freiburg. In 1975 he graduated from the school of teaching in Freiburg. Due to his active membership of a Maoist group (KBW) he was banned from schools and afterwards worked at various occupations including journalism and teaching.
In 1978 he was a joint founder of the Manfred-Hildenbrand Publishing house in Oberkirch, known as the “Arbeitsgruppe Oberkircher Lehrmittel” (AOL).
After leaving AOL he founded the “Verlag an der Ruhr” (first named Verlag der Schulpraxis) in Muelheim a. d. Ruhr. A year later, to his great fortune, he met Annelie Loeber, the woman and opportunity of a lifetime. Although it started without any personal capital, the publishing house developed into a recognized brand in the twenty five years from 1983 with a yearly turnover of well over 5 million Euros and steady, double figure profit margins.
In 2003 the business was sold to Cornelsen Holding. Wilfried remained as manager and publisher in Muelheim from 2003 until the end of 2006, at which point he chose to leave. In accordance with an interim agreement made with the Holding he developed the “Agentur Ratschlag” in Ueberlingen as a permanent programme consultant to the publisher; unfortunately, unresolved differences over the further organization and content of the publishing house led to an unhappy separation.
Thankful for the opportunities he has had, Wilfried is today trying to give something back to the community: through volunteer work in his own foundation (www.selbstlos-stiftung.de) and in other (also publishing related) projects.
